The Inca Trail Network extends through the Andean Mountains from Colombia to the northern half of Chile. Your adventure today puts you on part of the Inca Trail to Cusco. We pick you up from your hotel for a short car ride to Piuray Lake. At that point, your trek begins on an ancient path surrounded by marvelous views. The first stretch of the trail is the most challenging and exhilarating. We then continue across the Andean countryside, where there is little vegetation. From here the inclines are gradual until we reach our lunch spot, where we enjoy a truly magnificent view of the entire Cusco Valley. The trail you are on is the Inca trail that was used for transportation between towns in the Sacred Valley and the city of Cusco. The trail heads downhill from the lunch spot toward Cusco. On the way to the city we stop to enjoy Sacsayhuaman, an impressive fortress and archaeological complex, one of the most important and immense examples of Inca engineering. We’ll take our time to explore this megalithic structure. After the visit, we continue our descent to downtown historic Cusco, walking along narrow and picturesque streets until we reach the main square, where today’s adventure comes to an end.
